“As the Outreach Worker in Treo Port Lairge, my role involves engaging with participants that are referred to Treo in the community of Waterford City, and those who are in prison or addiction centres.
I engage with individuals at their own pace, while they are engaging with the criminal justice system. Participants are supported in accessing crucial supports and resources. This includes connecting participants to essential services such as healthcare, housing, addiction, legal, recreational, well-being and also education/training, and employment opportunities.” – Rachel O’Regan
The buy-in to this service is that the individual is interested in engaging with Treo to examine their offending behaviour. Participants are guided to access supports and programmes that are provided in-house at Treo.
We offer a mentoring-type service, to build trust and rapport, while offering guidance, information, and advocacy to help clients navigate complex systems and overcome barriers.
Through community engagement and personalised assistance, I aim to promote social inclusion, improve well-being, and facilitate positive change for those engaging with Treo.
As part of the staff team, the Outreach Worker supports individuals in understanding their offending behaviours. This is undertaken in groups and on a 1-2-1 basis within Treo.
Additionally, the Outreach Worker’s role involves visiting participants who have been sent to prison. The aim of this is to offer assistance during their incarceration, help them reintegrate back into society on release, and hopefully reduce future offending
