The aim of the scheme is to re-engage participants (aged 18 to 35) in their community and work life. The CE Scheme provides a blend of individualised education and training programmes with a variety of placements, as to better prepare each participant for progression to employment and support them in their stabilisation. The scheme finds a balance of activities that enhances both their personal and working skills. Each participant works for 19.5 hours per week to a timetable that is tailored to their needs and abilities. Participants can be employed on the scheme from 1-3 years duration.
The CE Scheme facilitates a variety of QQI accredited modules such as; Engineering Technology, General Learning, Reception and Frontline Office Skills, Digital Media, Internet Skills, Word Processing, Health Related Fitness, Work Experience, Food and Nutrition, Nutrition and Healthy Options, Functional Maths, Sports and Rec, Health Care, Manual and Computerised Account, and industry standard awards such as; Safe Pass, Manual Handling, Forklift Training, and First Aid Responder. Participants also take part in non-certified training and development programmes such as; Gym Education, Coping Skills, Healthy Cooking, Acupuncture and Relaxation, Driver Theory Test Support, Adult Literacy Support, Woodwork, Career Planning, Life Skills ( Budgeting, Drugs Awareness, Meal Planning, etc.), Arts and Crafts, C.V Preparation.
At present, the CE participants are placed in local community organisations such as; Dungarvan Pitch and Putt, West Waterford Golf Course, Dungarvan Men’s Shed, and Seandun Community Allotments, Waterford Area Partnership, and the Women’s Shed. Furthermore, as the participants progress through the scheme and in congruence with their career goals, they have the opportunity to gain work experience in private companies. Thus far they have worked in local hardwares, hotels, restaurants, fuel merchants, and a scaffolding company.
